UK Gym Goers Get Back On Their Feet

Gym chains post strong initial footfall

Since 25th July, gyms across England have been finally able to re-open for the first time in 4 months, with Wales following soon after and Scotland planning on opening their gyms from Monday 31st August.

During lockdown, much of the UK had to be creative with their exercise routine as government guidelines changed over the months. Some of our gym partners were able to offer virtual classes & PT sessions to keep their members in shape, but one thing that remained the same was the countries desire to stay fit.

Since reopening the initial data is pointing towards a strong start, with many gyms able to operate at 70-80% of pre-lockdown capacity levels. Member retention is good, with over 90% of members retained for our partners Pure Gym, David Lloyd & Nuffield Health.

The good news doesn’t stop there, whilst the number of members allowed in venues is limited due to government guidelines, data from David Lloyd suggests active members are visiting on average 2.9 times per week, up from 2.7 pre-lockdown.

With strict government guidelines in place, there is a new look to many gyms across the country. One-way systems, cleaning stations & socially distanced zones are a few of the ways chains are keeping members safe. The feedback of which has been positive, feedback has been very positive so far with how clean gyms have been.

Pure Gym have created a useful video on how the modern day gyms are shaping up.

Joining the re-opening of gyms is our 600 strong gym advertising network, connecting brands to 2.5m members. We also recently added to the network a hand sanitiser screen opportunity in gyms, which you can read more about here.

Our strong commercial partnerships with the likes of David Lloyd, Nuffield Health & Pure Gym to name a few, covers the length of the UK and boasts a wide range of target audience types, from students to the affluent 55+.

With high impact and effective media opportunities including digital 6-sheets, ambient and sampling, you can then engage your target audience with maximum impact, whilst they’re most receptive to advertising.

Finally, in light of the current situation, we are still offering some exceptional value during the summer and early Autumn period for customers to take advantage of. During August and September we are running a 2 for 1 promotion allowing customers to get twice as much value from their campaigns.
